Configure tests for your controls (Hub)

Learn how to add tests to controls at the Hub level, so that your Spokes can use these control tests

This article discusses control sets that have tests at the Hub level. For specific step-by-step instructions on how to use tests, head here.

If you are using the 6clicks Hub & Spoke architecture, you can create content such as control sets centrally at the Hub, and either push them directly to Spokes, or allow your Spokes to add them from your exclusive Content Library, to ensure consistency and compliance.

What is a Hub-level control set?

Like any other content created in the Hub, control sets created at the Hub level cannot be put directly to use; they are only put to use once they arrive at the Spoke level.

Therefore, control sets in the Hub appear slightly differently.

A control set in the Hub can have:

Controls, responsibilities linked to those controls, tests linked to those controls, and responsibilities linked to those tests.

A control set in the Hub cannot have:

Test results, issues & issue actions that may be linked to test results, and responsibility tasks, as they only come into effect at use.

Responsibilities linked to tests are separate from responsibilities linked to controls. This is because a test may be applicable to multiple controls, but a responsibility that is applicable to one of those controls may not be applicable to the other controls just because these controls use the same test.

Consider linking responsibilities to tests if the responsibilities & their tasks can pass/fail.

Similarly, consider linking responsibilities to controls if these controls can pass/fail.

Control sets in the Hub

Firstly, ensure that tests are enabled for the control set type that you want to add tests to. To do this, head to Administration Custom data and find the Control Set type table.

Select the control set type that you want to add tests to, and click Edit then check the box for Enable testing. Click Save.

Head to Content Controls (or what you renamed it to).

Create a new control set by clicking Create control set or add a control set to your Hub from the 6clicks Content Library.

Set it to Edit status if necessary, and you can now add tests and responsibilities to the controls. You can also add responsibilities to those tests.

Putting the control set to use

Once the control set is complete with its responsibilities and tests, you can either push it to your Spokes or add it to your exclusive Content Library, so your Spokes can access it whenever they need it.
